Where have I been?
I started my Science Communication adventure when I self-designed a Science Communication major at the College of William & Mary, in Virginia, USA. I combined my passion for both scientific discovery and storytelling to produce multimedia work using words, pictures, video, animation and more. Throughout my degree, I let my curiosity lead me, studying biology, ecology, environmental science and history, documentary filmmaking, journalism and creative writing.
During my undergrad studies, I used a scholarship grant to build a storymap cover the 2017 total solar eclipse, traveling down the east coast to talk to citizens and scientists alike. Read the final published story here.
I was also awarded a reporting fellowship that gave me the opportunity to travel to Hawaii and cover the controversy surrounding construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope. I interviewed scientists, environmental activists, and Native Hawaiian residents about astronomy on Mauna Kea. The final story was published on the Pulitzer Center website here.
Following graduation, I joined the World Resources Institute on the Global Forest Watch (GFW) project, where I worked as a Writer and Editor running the GFW blog. I wrote and published pieces about remote sensing and forest research.
I am currently based at the Woodwell Climate Research Center in Massachusetts, USA, where I have the privilege of working closely with top climate scientists from around the world to report on the climate crisis and developing solutions. I travel to different research sites as required to capture the real-time experience of ongoing research, as well as get first-hand insights from our scientific teams. We recently attended the COP27 conference in Egypt, where I covered our scientists presenting their novel climate research to international policy makers.
In my off hours, I’m still immersed in both science and storytelling— from creative fiction projects, to a digital comic about NASA’s Perseverance rover, to creating a historical coloring book. There’s always a new adventure to embark upon.
Where will I go?
I’m always interested in new projects, so if you would like to collaborate or have an idea for freelance, please feel free to contact me. I have lots of experience in the climate and environmental field, but I can’t say no to more extraterrestrial environments either!
